Botox

What is Botox?

Botox is a popular injectable treatment in Singapore that aims to improve the look of wrinkles and fine lines on the face, creating a younger look temporarily. This treatment can also be administered as a contouring method to help to relax the jaw muscles to achieve a more defined jawline.

As an anti-aging treatment, Botox is commonly used to treat wrinkles, fine lines and forehead lines.

Why Botox?

• Quick and temporary treatment option that delivers targeted results

• Perfect for those who want to look younger and more refreshed without going under the knife

• Designed to treat facial wrinkles on tender areas such as the eyes, neck and forehead

• Slows down the aging process

• Repeated treatments can be done safely

• No downtime or side effects

• Reduce facial wrinkles such as frown lines

• Promotes tighter, more elastic skin

How does Botox work?

Apart from genetics and/or ageing, facial wrinkles are also caused by the involuntary or sometimes voluntary action of contracting our facial muscles, e.g. when we frown or laugh.

Botox weakens the muscles that cause this action. By blocking off the signals between the nerves and muscles, Botox prevents facial muscles from contracting and thus the formation of smile/frown lines.

Botox is also particularly useful for those with a wide/square jawline, especially for patients with active jaw muscles due to bruxism.

However, this does not mean getting botox treatment limits your ability to control your facial expressions – an experienced doctor will know how much to administer so you will not look ‘frozen’.

What conditions can Botox treat?

Botox is able to correct wrinkles and fine lines as well as other types of facial wrinkles. This includes facial wrinkles commonly found in the eye area such as crow’s feet, frown lines, and nasolabial folds which is caused by aging or being expressive. These conditions are very typical in Singapore and can be treated easily. Botox is also able to treat a square jawline to give a subtle appearance of a V-line, and is a popular treatment option in Korea.

What results can I expect from Botox?

Patients can expect tighter skin after undergoing Botox treatment, with a reduction in facial wrinkles. For those who have done Botox treatment as a facial contouring method, the jawline will also temporarily take on a softer appearance.

How many treatments of Botox do I need?

Botox is suitable for patients across different age groups and skin conditions. The number of Botox treatments will depend on the patient’s needs or on the treatment plan you and your dermatologist has formulated.

Generally, results last about 3-4 months from the very first treatment. After which, maintenance sessions (anywhere from 2-6 sessions a year done every 3 months) are recommended.

FAQs

Is Botox safe?
Botox is a safe, minimally invasive and non-surgical method to treat aging concerns. However, patients who are pregnant should consult a doctor prior to undergoing Botox as they may not be suitable for the treatment. As Botox targets the facial muscles to loosen them, patients with muscle or nerve disorders such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) may not be able to undergo Botox treatment as there may be complications.
Is Botox painful?
There may be some stinging pain but numbing cream can be applied prior to help with any potential discomfort. Botox treatment is typically very manageable and each session takes only about 15 minutes.
Does Botox have any downtime?
There is no downtime needed for Botox, and patients will be able to resume their normal activities right after undergoing treatment.
